5 Reasons You Should Travel to Rehabs in Florida

Florida is a great place to start your road to recovery, but should you travel to rehabs in Florida?

It’s not uncommon for addicts and alcoholics in various states to travel to rehabs in Florida for addiction treatment. While a lot of these people are driven by the expertise in Florida addiction treatment centers, there are a wide variety of different reasons to undergo treatment out-of-state instead of locally. Here are some of the benefits of traveling to rehabs in Florida:

1. Dramatic changes and a new environment can help change your behavior

Escaping from the grasp of addiction can be very difficult. That’s because all of the bad behaviors and habits associated with substance abuse are – well – they’re habits. Sometimes a dramatic change is needed to break the habits of addiction. For example, being around the people, places, and activities that were a part of your life during addiction or alcoholism can result in triggers and cravings. Those temptations may be harder to deal with and harder to overcome when you are constantly being reminded of your addiction by your surroundings. While travelling to rehabs in Florida may not be a complete solution to cravings, it can put you in an environment where learning how to break those habits, and form new healthy ones, is easier.

2. Traveling out of state for treatment is a commitment to sobriety

Local rehab programs can be just as effective as rehabs in Florida, but one of the benefits of traveling out-of-state to undergo drug treatment is that you are making a commitment. Checking into a drug addiction treatment center is, generally, a voluntary process. You can leave at any time if you so choose to. Unfortunately, when people use rehab facilities near their home, the potential decision to quit treatment, to give up and go back to using, is always there. If you live less than an hour away from a rehab, what’s stopping you from giving up and walking home? Hopefully what’s stopping you is your desire to change and to achieve sobriety, but in some cases that isn’t enough. Sometimes you need the extra steps of buying a plane ticket, paying for transportation, and arranging travel home. Those extra steps may just make a recovering addict think twice before giving up on their treatment plan.

3. Leaving home can remove a lot of distractions and let you focus

It can be difficult to put your life on pause to attend treatment for addiction, but while you’re in a treatment center, your mind should be focused on recovery and recovery alone. Local rehabs do their best to eliminate distractions for recovering addicts, but for a lot of people the fact that their close to home can make it difficult to give sobriety their sole focus. When choosing to travel to rehabs in Florida, you are removing yourself from the distractions and drama at home. You are giving yourself a chance to focus on improving yourself as you move towards sobriety.

4. Feeling comfortable and knowing that your information is private

While rehabs, and addiction treatment specialist in general, are never going to share your personal information to others, people often feel more comfortable sharing their story, and openly talking about their experience with addiction, when they know the individuals that they are talking to have no connections to their home and private life. Seeking addiction treatment is an extremely personal decision, and you should feel comfortable talking about your problems with your councilors and treatment specialist.  And we understand that in some cases, it can be difficult to explain to friends and family why you are traveling to Florida for an extended stay, but rehabs in Florida, like South Beach Detox, are happy to help with those tough conversations and decisions.

5. Starting a new in a new environment

Addiction has a way of making the past hard to deal with. While its important to confront and deal with those emotions, it can also be extremely cathartic to create a new start for yourself. When you travel out-of-state to rehabs in Florida, you can make that new life for yourself. You can form new habits, rediscover who you are, and potentially start a new life in a new state. South Beach Detox understand that moving on from addiction can be extremely freeing, and that is why we have committed ourselves to helping you build that new life for yourself.
