Our medical director will oversee your detox program, developing and administering your custom detox process. We closely monitor all vitals, promoting safety at every step of your detox. Our registered nurses are available at all hours to help attend to all client needs during detox and beyond.
Meet the Team
Dr. Roberto Sanchez, Psy. D, MS, MA, LHMC, CAP
Chief Operating Officer
Dr. Sanchez draws on more than 25 years of diversified leadership experience spanning multiple industries across four states. The tactical oversight he provides at South Beach Detox ensures that the clinical and behavioral health care staff are providing the best quality and empirically validated behavioral/addiction health care interventions to the patients served. Dr. Sanchez brings over two decades of experience in the addiction treatment field. He has served in the capacity of chief operating officer and chief executive officer/executive director in many facilities over the past 27 years. Additionally, he has served as an expert consultant in the South Florida tri-county area. Dr. Sanchez worked as an expert consultant in forensic settings in Florida, New York, California and Texas in courtroom forums, jury research and for the federal and state corrections departments. He studied and trained in multiple addiction treatment facilities, psychiatric hospitals, residential settings, community mental health centers, and private practice settings in South Texas, South Florida, New York and California. Dr. Sanchez earned his Associates Degree in 1989 from Del Mar College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Texas in 1992 and a Master of Science in Counseling from Texas A&M in 1995. He earned his non-terminal Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology in 2003 from Albizu University, and completed his Doctorate in Clinical and Forensic Psychology from Albizu University in 2008. Dr. Sanchez is 11 years sober and has a personal passion for helping others achieve sobriety and in building programs that afford patients/people the opportunity to overcome addiction. He measures his own personal success by the number of lives he and the team at South Beach Detox can successfully reach and aid in their path of recovery. When Dr. Sanchez is not at South Beach Detox he can be found playing the guitar and singing, working out at the gym, looking for the best surf spots in Florida and traveling to different parts of the world to surf.
Alexandra Chocron, MS, LMHC
Alexandra Chocron is the primary therapist at South Beach Detox. She received her Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University and is licensed in the state of Florida. She is a bilingual psychotherapist, which creates the opportunity for her to work with individuals in their preferred language of English or Spanish. She has a true passion for what she does, and finds great fulfillment in bringing her experience and training to help others. When she is not at work, Alexandra enjoys spending time with family at the beach and visiting new restaurants in the area. “At the end of my day, I feel satisfied when I look in the mirror and know I helped someone improve their life”.
Jennifer Johnston, LPN, CCHP
Jennifer Johnston is the Nursing Coordinator at South Beach Detox. She studied psychology and criminology at Broward College prior to becoming a nurse. Jennifer also worked in corrections, which is where she discovered her passion to help people as a psychiatric nurse, specializing in psychiatric disorders and substance abuse. Prior to completing nursing school, she was the Director of Operations at an art gallery, overseeing all orders and the framing process. In her spare time, she enjoys taking her kids to the beach and teaching them the importance of helping people. Jennifer is very caring and compassionate, and applies these – and other – skills to help our clients in the best way possible. She understands that every client has individual and specific needs, and tailors her approach accordingly.
Deserea Ramos, BSN, RN
Deserea Ramos is a Registered Nurse at South Beach Detox, and for over two years has focused on care related to Psychiatric Disorders and Substance Abuse. She has training in both general medicine and mental health, as handling patients suffering from substance abuse requires knowledge of both disciplines. Deserea is committed to providing a safe and approachable atmosphere for patients, and is a firm believer that a sincere smile is powerful.
Deserea knows that she can never underestimate the impact she may have on someone’s life, and that every interaction is an opportunity to make a positive impact on others. She is focused on helping those in immediate need, and also helping their loved ones with the hope that they can enjoy a better future. Although Deserea’s primary passion is nursing, on her days off she enjoys spending time with her family and traveling to new places. Long-term career plans include continuing her education and working on a Master’s Degree in Psychiatric Nursing. “Every day I decide that this is the type of difference I want to make.”
Lauren Sturgis is South Beach Detox’s Registered Dietitian and Licensed Nutritionist. Her passion for health and nutrition started at a young age and she decided very early she wanted to study nutrition. She began her studies at Florida State University and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Sciences from Florida State University. Lauren went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Dietetics/Nutrition from Robert Stempel School of Public Health.
Lauren specializes in working with clients in the substance abuse field and is committed to creating healthier lifestyles for them. She facilitates nutrition groups to provide nutrition education and personally consults with clients about meal planning, blood work analysis for nutritional deficiencies, and leads disordered eating interventions. Lauren works closely with clients to ensure they meet their nutritional needs and to establish a proper diet for a sustainable recovery, as she believes a systemic approach is crucial for success. When she’s not practicing nutrition, she creates recipes and cooks healthy meals for her family. Lauren’s goal is to establish great relationships with her clients and to help them adopt cleaner and healthier lifestyles.
George St. Louis
VP Business Development
George St. Louis comes to South Beach Detox with over 25 years of treatment experience, having worked as a case manager, interventionist and program director. George’s dedicated focus is working with the challenging-to-serve and chronic relapse population. His passion was born out of working in the mental health and criminal justice fields. George and his staff strive to achieve complete customer satisfaction for every client. He spends his off-time playing basketball and baking outrageous desserts (which encourage his staff to exercise)!
Executive Assistant to South Beach Detox Staff
Kylie Stoops is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in Health Administration with a minor in Business Law. She has been in the substance abuse industry for three years and has served as an Administrative Assistant, Case Manager and Intake Coordinator. Kylie enjoys meeting with new patients and welcoming them to the facility. She understands that the first steps of recovery are difficult and focuses on ensuring that patients are comfortable throughout their entire stay at South Beach Detox. In her spare time, Kylie enjoys time with friends and family, and spending time at the beach. Her passion is traveling, and she hopes to visit many countries and experience different cultures, using what she learns to enhance the lives of those she interacts with as well as her own.
Tavin Portman serves as our admissions and outreach coordinator and has a vested interest and passion to communicate with individuals as well as their families struggling with substance abuse and mental health challenges throughout the treatment process.
Tavin enjoys spending time with his family and his two golden retrievers, Henry and Cali. You can find him running in local 5k or 10k races, as well as playing friendly 3-on-3 basketball games.
